An ultrasound scan uses sound waves to look at organs, muscles, tendons and blood vessels. People most often book abdominal and pelvic scans, pregnancy scans, thyroid checks and musculoskeletal scans for joint or tendon pain. The scan itself takes 15 to 30 minutes, and a radiologist or sonographer usually reports the results within a few days, sometimes on the same day.
What you'll pay depends on the body area, whether one region or several are scanned in the same visit, and whether the appointment includes time with a doctor to talk through the findings. Specialist scans, like vascular or early-pregnancy scans, tend to cost more than a routine single-area scan.
