A private pregnancy scan gives you extra reassurance between (or before) your routine NHS scans, with longer appointments and often same-week availability. The common ones are early viability scans from around 6 weeks, dating scans, gender scans from 16 weeks and 4D "meet the baby" scans. Partners are welcome at almost every clinic.
Price depends mainly on the type of scan and how long it takes. A short reassurance or gender scan sits at the lower end, while a detailed anomaly or 4D package with photos and video costs more. On Keystone, published prices for standard scans currently run from around £55 to £100, with premium 4D packages priced above that.
Most people book privately because they want an early scan before the NHS 12-week appointment, or reassurance after a previous loss, or simply an appointment that fits around work and family. A private scan complements NHS care rather than replacing it: if anything needs following up, the clinic will refer you back to your midwife or an early pregnancy unit.
