Clinics offering ophthalmology consultation
Good to know before you book
A private ophthalmology appointment gets a consultant eye specialist looking at problems like cataracts, glaucoma, floaters, dry eye, or vision that's getting worse and glasses aren't fixing. The visit usually includes a sight test, an eye-pressure check and a dilated look at the back of the eye, and you'll leave with a diagnosis and a plan.
Fees depend on the consultant and clinic, and on which scans (OCT imaging, visual field tests) are done on the day; sometimes they're bundled in, sometimes billed per test. If you're being assessed for something like cataract surgery, ask for the all-in package price rather than just the consultation fee.
Eye problems are genuinely frightening, and NHS ophthalmology waits are among the longest of any specialty. Privately you can usually be examined within days, come via your optician or self-refer, and choose the consultant who'd carry out any surgery.
