Good to know before you book

A private blood test can be anything from checking a single marker (vitamin D, say, or your thyroid) to a full health-screen panel. The blood draw itself takes minutes, plenty of clinics offer walk-in or same-day appointments, and results usually land within one to three working days, often with a doctor's comments attached.

The price really comes down to what's being tested: one marker costs far less than a big wellness panel. Two things worth asking before you book. Is the blood draw (phlebotomy) fee included in the panel price? And does a follow-up chat about your results cost extra?

People mostly go private for speed and control: to check something specific without waiting for a GP appointment, to keep an eye on a known condition more often than the NHS would, or just to get a proper baseline on their health. And if anything comes back abnormal, you can take the results straight to your NHS GP or talk them through with a private doctor.
