Private Dental Price List UK (2026): What Every Treatment Costs

Last updated 29 September 2026

Most private dental practices publish a price list, but every list is laid out differently and none of them compare themselves with the practice down the road. We've gathered the published prices from hundreds of UK practices, most of them in London, and worked out what each treatment typically costs.

Quick answer: a private dental check-up typically costs £79 and a hygienist visit £85. A filling is typically £150, a crown £600 and root canal treatment £550. A dental implant with its crown typically costs £2,770. The full price list is below.

Why private dental prices vary so much

  • Location. Central London practices, especially around Harley Street, tend to charge more than suburban practices.
  • What's included. One practice's check-up includes X-rays and a scale and polish, another's doesn't. Check before you compare.
  • Materials. White fillings, all-ceramic crowns and porcelain veneers cost more than the basic options.
  • Who treats you. Specialists such as orthodontists, endodontists and oral surgeons usually charge more than a general dentist.

Private vs NHS dental charges

NHS dental treatment in England is charged in three bands, so a check-up, a filling and a crown each have one fixed NHS price whichever practice you use. The current charges are listed on the NHS website. Private prices are set by each practice, which is why comparing them is worth doing. People usually go private because they can't find an NHS dentist taking new patients, want a treatment the NHS doesn't cover, such as veneers or whitening, or want an appointment sooner.
